Our dilema for the Vaticano area is lunch. We have a 1:45 reservation for the Scavi tour and must arrive by 1:30 which only allows us time for a quick bite after visiting Castel S. Angelo. Would have loved to try Il Simposio di Costantini, but it appears they’re not open for lunch on the weekends.

From Pecepe (a poster on slowtalk):
If you want a treat take a ten minute walk to the market on the corner of Via Cola di Rienzo and Via Terenzio, next door to Castroni which is at Via Cola di Rienzo, 196. If Castroni doesn’t have the very best coffee in Rome then it is in the top tier. The market next door has counters full of walk-away food, cheeses, salume, sandwiches etc. These two stores are about a ten-minute walk from the Castel Sant Angelo, and from there to the Vatican is about another ten minute walk. Since there are many shops as you walk along Via di Rienzo it may take a little longer as you window shop. Check Mapblast or Michelin for the map of the area from which you can print your routes.
