Sacred and Profane is the second book in Faye Kellerman’s Peter Decker, Rina Lazerus series. I wanted to continue on with the series because after reading the first, Ritual Bath, I was curious to see how the author would keep our two main characters together since they come from such disparate backgrounds (a baptist police detective and an orthodox Jewish widow). I was also curious how Rina would contribute to the mystery, assuming that since the series was named after both characters she would become part of the “detecting” team.
The answer to the first question came quickly, they have off screen professed their love to each other and he meets with a rabbi, looking into conversion and the answer to the second, well, I don’t think it’s too much of a spoiler to say, not at all.
You see this story is purely police procedural with Decker investigating the death of two girls and the mild tie-in to Rina was that her son discovered the bodies while camping with Decker. It’s still quick moving and engaging. Enough so that I’m patiently (not really) waiting for the next in the series to become available from our library and will definitely continue along with the series.
