Like the Sue Grafton, Kinsey Millhone series, Faye Kellerman has a series of books that has been out for a long while that I never ventured to read. However, after my aunt recommended the books to me a few times and after realizing our library has them on Kindle, I decided to try the first book, The Ritual Bath.
Unlike other series this one seems to feature two main characters, a police detective, Peter Decker and a widowed mother of two, Rina Lazarus, with the added twist that Rina is an orthodox Jew living at a Yeshivah. In the first story, Rina’s life is upended when a violent crime takes place at the yeshivah. That’s the impetus for throwing these two together.
Although I had my suspicions about the culprit early on, the author threw in enough red herrings to keep me guessing throughout. Not to mention that it was an easy read and quick pace, I was able to bang it out in no time. I enjoyed the book and will return soon for the second installment if only to see how the author concocts to throw these two mismatches from different worlds but with an obvious attraction together again.
