I love my Tivo. I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned that here or not, but I do. Tivo has educated me. It’s made me laugh, hell, it’s even made me a better parent. I love my Tivo.
Last night Tivo snagged a No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain for me. Now I don’t have Anthony on a wish list or a season pass because I’ve only been mildly interested in him and not in a good way. I never appreciated his sarcastic somewhat arrogant sense of humor. But my friend, Stella, loves him (not to mention several other ladies on the SlowTrav message board, SlowTalk), so I gave him a shot a few months ago, with his New Jersey episode, which being an almost native (I was actually born in NYC and didn’t move to Jersey until I was almost three), I appreciated his homage to our home state. I had two other episodes, Iceland, and India, that unfortunately I let lapse.
So why did Tivo snag Anthony for me last night? Paris! Anthony visited Paris in his episode and while I fell asleep shortly after his absinthe delusions, that’s no reflection on Tony’s entertainment value (and he is entertaining). It just goes to show how lame I am. By the way, love the episode title, “Why the French Don’t Suck.”
Anyway, I’m looking forward to watching the rest of the episode while I’m on the trainer later and will be setting up my season pass shortly. For anyone who missed it, it looks like the Travel Channel is doing a mini-marathon on April 28 and it will be rebroadcast then. Enjoy!
This very special birthday trip in France is all because of Mr. Bourdain’s Paris show! (I know you know that, Kim, but your readers don’t. 😉 )
Let me know if you want to borrow his “Sicily” DVD – he went to some of the same places in Palermo that Shannon and I did in 2005!
