Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
Seriously, I think we may need a definition of what marriage is because right now, if I could marry my Keurig, I would.
Don’t know what a Keurig is? Well, only the best invention ever. It’s a single brew coffee machine. Which means, now I can have a hot, fresh cup of coffee whenever I want, without driving through Dunkin Donuts, visiting Starbucks, or brewing a fresh pot at home.
It’s quite simple, you pop open the top, drop in a pod (aka K-cup) which can be any number of dozens of different flavors (Paul Newman has some, Green Mountain Coffee has them, and even Gloria Jeans), fill the carafe with one cup of water (well, to the fill line, I’m assuming it’s eight ounces), put a cup on the platform, and press the button. Three minutes later you have a hot, delicious cup of coffee (oh, and there are also tea K-Cups and Hot Chocolate, though we’re not big fans of the hot chocolate).
I order my K-cups from Green Mountain Coffee (because I want the flavors I want – but Bed, Bath and Beyond also sells them) and it works out to be about 50 cents a cup. Yes, I know, not cheap, but 50% cheaper than a cup of coffee at Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks (based on a 16 oz serving), but not as cheap as brewing an entire pot (especially when using my can of Chock Full O Nuts from Shop Rite that I bought on special). But let’s face it, sometimes, you just don’t want an entire pot, or even half a pot, sometimes you just want one cup of perfectly brewed coffee and that’s what I get each morning before the rest of the house wakes (and demands their pot o’ joe) or in the afternoon, when I need a pick-me-up.
[…] Keurig, that makes me only wait 3 minutes for a cup of coffee while the larger pot is […]
I only knew about the one George Clooney does the commercial for…and obviously I didn’t learn much from that commercial since I don’t remember the brand name…only remember George looking like a hunk in the commercial.
azahar, we used a Nespresso when we rented an apartment in London and loved it. At home we have a Francis Francis that we use illy pods in but this is for espresso (great before a long bike ride) but usually I prefer a big mug of coffee.
Palma, I knew you’d say that.
Nancy, do you like the Senesco? I didn’t even know there were other brands out there.
We used one of these in our B&B in Rome last summer. Every time I go to Bed Bath and Beyond and see one, I itch to buy it – but then I think about my counter space. However, someday I just may do it.
I’ve only ever seen the Nespresso ones and wondered how they worked. Used to have a small cappuccino maker in Toronto and it was also excellent for fast single cups of coffee.
I just bought one yesterday for my brother in law. Also purchased the little filter so he can use his own coffee.
“Sometimes you just don’t want an entire pot, or even half a pot”
Really? Seems like I ALWAYS want a whole pot. I will try to pat attention.
It is very cute though, and I like the idea of the little pods. Wait, does that mean I couldn’t send Brad out at weird hours to get more if I ran out?
I have been using Senseo coffee makers for several years. I wonder how they compare to the Keurigs.
I get my one-cup pods from Amazon – I think they probably figure to be about .50 a cup too.
Thanks for this info because I’ve been curious about these things.
Looks great! I love coffee and sometimes those little pods are perfect — no mess, no fuss, away you go!
Nothing beats a great coffee maker does it! It took me about 20 years to find one I really like – now I bring it with me when we’re going away (i.e. Maine, camping . . .). Perhaps I am just obsessed! LOL
Uh … I’m supposed to clean it?
Seriously though, the water goes in the carafe, the pods are self-contained and the coffee drips right into the mug. Other than water deposits, the only thing to clean is the drip tray underneath the cup – guess I should go check how dirty it is. 😀
Interesting. Considering the number of Mokkas I’ve ruined over the years, this may be a good option for me. How is it to clean?
