Don’t you just love that word? I do. I love how it sounds like it means. I love how it feels when I say it. And I love that I can use it in a sentence, like, my weight loss attempts over the past few months have been lackadaisical at best.
Yep, that’s true – I’ve been stalled for over six months now. Some weeks, worse than stalled, some weeks I gain. At least now though I when I gain one week I can usually get it off the next but still, I’m spinning my wheels. I’m pursuing weight loss “without interest, vigor or determination.” I’m totally “listless” and “lethargic.” (all good words by the way).
I like to tell the girls when they have a problem and they’re upset, they have five (maybe 10 if it’s a big problem) minutes to bitch and moan and then they have to figure out how they’re going to fix it.
Given that, let’s say I’m done bitching and moaning about this one. But, seriously, for the life of me, I’m stumbling around here and trying to figure out how to get back my drive and determination.
All suggestions welcome.
Kim, Krista makes a great point! I’m always amazed at what a difference spring makes to my exercise/energy/weight loss efforts. Where we are right now is usually the worst time of year for feeling stalled, although I work out as hard as I can in January, February, March….It seems to pay off by spring, and the additional light and warmer weather help a lot as well.
Keep the faith, sister!
Kim, I bet the change of seasons and daylight savings time will give you just the boost you need to get you out of your lull. I agree with Chiocciola, you have accomplished so much, a little six month stalling out period is probably only natural.
Oh yes, that is on my list of all time favourite words for sure!
I’m struggling on the weight loss front myself. I’d like to shed at least 20, preferably 30 pounds, but am so far too lazy to do anything other than cut my portions. Fortunately that still works in my early stages, so I’ve lost 7+ pounds…I don’t know what I’ll do next. If I have any good motivating ideas, I’ll pass them along.
Kim,
I *know* you’ll get back your drive and determination. I think you just have the winter doldrums. (Another good word!)
I wish I knew! If we could figure out the secrets to personal motivation, it would be equal to winning the lottery!
I’ve been in a slump for over a year now and the weight has been creeping up. And really, it seems to be a life-long cycle (periods of motivation followed by periods of sloth). I’m hoping that warmer weather and longer days will at least get me exercising more. Argh!
Kim, that is one of my all-time favorite words!
I remember my Grandmother using it.
No advice here, just wanting to wish you good luck. I have read through some of your weight loss entries and I am amazed at your accomplishments!
