Today we woke at 5:40 to do our long ride. We had to be back by 9:45 to drive Becky to school for drama rehearsal, thus the early morning start. Yet again, I meant to bring a camera and forgot because we saw some cool things.
Forget the scenery as the sun rises over, the fields, or the steam coming off the lake, this morning as we stopped so Chris could show me what honey suckle looks like (the air smelled amazingly sweet from it), a vulture came out from under the brush and flew up to a nearby telephone poll where it proceeded to perch and imitate that move from Karate Kid. You know the move, the one where he stands on a pull, spreads his arms out and lifts a leg. Well, the vulture didn’t lift a leg but it did spread its wings.
And as always, the yin and yang of things, today’s gross sight, a huge turtle, crushed in the middle of the road, missing its head. Gross.
So how did Chris save a life? Well, on our return, we spotted a small box turtle trying to cross the road. Chris feared for the little fella, stopped his bike, returned, and moved it back into the woods. Hopefully the turtle thought better of his actions and we won’t see his carcass next week on our ride.
