Continuing the Edinburgh quest, I’ve returned to the Inspector Faro mysteries by Alanna Knight (remember, the first book was Enter Second Murderer). In Blood Line a mystery revolves around a man found dead on Castle Rock, presumably an accident to all but the Inspector. In his quest to find the man’s identity and the cause of his “accident” he stumbles upon a much older mystery … who was secretly buried inside the walls of Edinburgh Castle and was King James VI of Scotland, later to be King James I of England an imposter?
Without giving anything away, I found the pacing of this book to be better than the first. I enjoyed the addition of Faro’s mother and daughter though I will admit my first suspicions fell right on the money. Yet, the ending left me totally and completely unsatisfied – complete lack of closure.
What it did do for me though is leave me wondering if the ending of this book will affect the inspector; I’m hoping that it does and that it’s carried forward in the next book, Deadly Beloved (which by the way, I’m bummed that it’s no longer at the bargain basement price of $.99 but I’m still going to buy it).
Oh, the other thing it did for me, makes me want to go back and find some historical fiction on Mary Queen of Scots, something in a similar vein (or is that vain) to The Other Boleyn Girl.
Anyway, at the price of $.99 – yep, I’d definitely recommend it.
