Colleen sent me a link this week to the New York Times article, Affordable Europe: Paris (you may need to register to access it). I’m always on the hunt for good tidbits especially with the word affordable in front of them so I went over to check it out.
Of course, the first thing the article talked about was renting an apartment instead of a hotel in order to save some cash. Well, tell me something I don’t know. And I have to admit, I was a bit insulted that they went the rental route and didn’t bother to mention us. Personally, I wouldn’t rent an apartment without checking http://www.slowtrav.com first. Not that I’m biased or anything.
Next, it talked about Where to Eat. Now, if there’s any doubt that I’m all about the food, check out some of my trip reports. So I’m all over the eating places but they only mention one that interests me, Le Tais Restaurant/Bar at 129 Boulevard de Menilmontant in the 11th. It’s an Algerian couscous place but the place “fills up by 8:30.” But really interests me about this mention is the note to “head down Rue Oberkampf, which is dotted with bars that have live music.” I can see Shannon getting into that.
Where to Shop holds no interest for me but Best Money-Saving Tip has a good one. It talks about Taillevent, a restaurant with “one of the best wine cellars in the world.” Apparently, Taillevent on Saturdays (from 10am to 6:30) offers free tastings. According to the article, “click on Les Caves Taillevent, then Nos Prestations, and then Les Degustations.” It’s all in French.
The other information (e.g., free museums), I bypassed. It’s not a real detailed article but it’s worth a read.
